MADISON, USA - Trek president John Burke has introduced an ambitious advocacy program during Trek World. He asked the retailers to participate in his program, dubbed One World, Two Wheels. Burke said Trek will provide leadership and commitment, as well as ads, brochures, T-shirts and billboards.
Trek will donate $10 for every full-suspension bike sold to IMBA, for a minimum of € 413,000 (US $600,000) over the next three years. Trek also will donate € 0.70 (US $1) per helmet to Bicycle Friendly Communities, for a minimum of € 700,000 (US $1 million) over the next three years.
John Burke made his first call to the bicycle industry to allocate money for cycling advocacy at this years’ Taipei show. With this program introduced during Trek World he suits the action to the word. “We can’t do it alone and we need the help to achieve one ‘very important’ goal: to increase U.S. trips by bike from 1 % to 5 % by Trek World 2017”, Burke said. “Bicycling is a very simple solution to many complicated problems in the world”.
