Sanyo To Focus on Batteries Only
OSAKA, Japan - Reports say that Sanyo is increasing its focus on batteries after suffering annual net losses over the past three years. The troubled Japanese consumer electronics maker Sanyo Electric, which controls 40% of the global market for lithium-ion batteries, is considering exiting the market for major household appliances to focus on more profitable areas such as batteries used in for example electric bikes.
In an official announcement Sanyo stated that it had not ruled anything out on the fate of the business but that no decision had yet been taken.
Sanyo is struggling to return from the red amid fierce price competition. Its battery business has been a bright spot in its otherwise lacklustre recent performance.
