BRUSSEL, Belgium - The European Twowheel Retailers’s Association (ETRA) has seized the opportunity of the European Mobility Week to present a bicycle to the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering.
“The European Parliament is very committed to the environment. Initiatives like the electric bicycle will contribute to making transport more sustainable”, said Hans-Gert Pöttering while sitting on the Velo-city bike. This state of the art city-bike has been developed specifically as official bicycle for public authorities. The bike was handed over to Hans-Gert Pöttering by ETRA Vice-President Wim van Vliet and Secretary General Annick Roetynck.

The ceremony was also the starting signal for an electric bike ride in Brussels. For the ride, a group of about 35 people was headed by MEPs Michael Cramer, Péter Olajos and Justas Vincas Paleckis. In the afternoon, a number of electric bikes and a folding bike were on display in the Parliament and caught quite some attention.
Seven companies supplied bikes for the event: the Accell Group, Giant, Flyer, Schwinn, EBD E-Move, Binbike and Vélécaventure.
