PARIS, France – The French market looks to be on the brink of an e-bike boom. In 2006 the number of e-bikes sold in France was still too small to be mentioned in the official sales figures. At last week’s Paris Cycle Show several suppliers confirmed an estimated sale of some 6,000 units on a total market of somewhat more than 3.5 million bikes.
But for 2007 things are changing rapidly. This year hypermarket Carrefour decided to enter e-bikes into its product range. Although not officially confirmed, it is said that Carrefour sold some 30,000 e-bikes.
Also the number of pedelecs and e-bikes distributed through the bicycle dealer’s network, is said to be growing as the French get to know the e-bike very quickly through Carrefour.
