Shimano Lead-Times on the Rise

NUNSPEET, the Netherlands – Shimano’s lead times are on the rise as the world’s biggest bike component maker is faced with ‘strong demand’ for its products. Last week Accell Group announced a lower profit forecast partly due to: “Delayed deliveries from Shimano and a number of larger frame suppliers that is affecting the availability of bicycles from the new model year.”

In a reaction Shimano stated: “Due to extremely increasing demand from the bicycle market worldwide, we face the reality that we ask customers longer lead-times for some products despite our continuous investments to increase our production capacity over the past several years.”

“However, once we committed ourselves in a delivery date, we do everything to keep our words. So, the current longer order lead-time is true, to our regret, but the delay of delivery is another issue,” Shimano’s announcement continues.

Order Volume 25% Plus

In Bike Europe’s September 2007 edition Shimano Europe Sales Director Frank Peiffer already indicated the strong demand for Shimano components which at that time amounted to an increase in order volume of 15 to 20% compared to September 2006.

On its 2007 deliveries Shimano also said today: “We will deliver 25% more products to our worldwide customers compared to the previous year in order to respond to the strong demand.”

More details on Shimano’s longer lead-times will be in Bike Europe’s e-Mail Newsletter that will be mailed later this week.
