Giant Ends Sponsoring T-Mobile Team

TAICHUNG, Taiwan - Giant has ended its sponsorship of the T-Mobile professional cycling teams. This was made public after T-Mobile announced it would stop its involvement in cycling last Tueday.

“We are very disappointed with T-Mobile’s announcement”, said Tony Lo, Giant CEO. “It highlights the ongoing challenges that are currently facing professional road racing.”

“We have a rich history of partnering with some of the best teams,” stated Tony Lo. “and we operate with a high level of integrity in all aspects of our business. Therefore we are deeply disappointed with the scandals that the sport is facing today. Consequently, we will make a fresh start and evaluate future partnership opportunities with programs that can demonstrate a high level of clean and fair competition.”

Team High Road

The former T-Mobile Team will continue under the name ‘Team High Road’ and is owned by Bob Stapleton. He also holds the team’s ProTour license. "T-Mobile’s decision to end its involvement in professional cycling is a challenge for the sport and our team”, said Bob Stapleton.

CEO of T-Mobile International Hamid Akhavan stated that they wanted to separate the brand T-Mobile from further exposure from doping in sport and cycling specifically. “We have worked very hard with the current team management to promote a clean cycling sport but we reached the decision to continue our efforts to rid all sports of doping by applying our resources in other directions”, said Akhavan.
