Shimano, PRO and Giant Continue to Sponsor Road Racing

NUNSPEET, the Netherlands – Giant is back as sponsor in road racing. Immediately after T-Mobile’s withdrawal from the professional road race team last week, Giant announced its discontinuation as sponsor as well. One week later the Giant is back. For Shimano and PRO it has never been a question to continue or not after T-Mobile’s withdrawal from the team.

“We will keep on supporting professional cycling especially in these difficult times”, says Hennie Stamsnijder, Shimano’s sports marketing manager. “Team High Road Sports is one of the leading teams in the peloton in all aspects and therefore this was a very easy decision. The philosophy of Bob Stapleton and his team is the right and only way to go for professional cycling in the future.”

Supplying components

Shimano and PRO will continue the cooperation by supplying the components, wheels, pedals, handlebar and handlebar stem for the Giant bikes that the team will be riding in the 2008 season.

For Giant, last week’s announcement to withdraw from the team now more looks like a firm stand against the doping cases which have been an important reason for T-Mobile’s departure. “Giant and Team High Road share the same commitment in clean and fair sport, and together we will work to shape the future of cycling,” stated Tony Lo, Giant’s CEO.

“We have been collaborating with this young and highly talented group of men and women to develop the world’s most advanced bicycles, and we’re excited to continue this powerful partnership. We can’t wait to unleash this winning formula in the coming season,” continued Tony Lo.
