Decathlon Expands in South East Europe
VILLENEUVE D’ASCQ, France - The sport retail chains have found the Balkan countries as a new growth market. From Slovenia down to Bulgaria local and international retailers are investing heavily in new shopping centres.
The sport chains like Intersport International, Sport 2000 and Decathlon are rushing to open up new stores.
Sources say that Décathlon had originally planned to open its first superstore with a surface of some 4,000 square meters in Romania next year. Negotiations with local authorities are still going on so the store the will likely open in 2009. For Décathlon this mega store will be their platform for further expansion to countries in the region like Greece and Turkey.
