German e-Bike Maker Hudson in Trouble?
NÜRNBERG, Germany – Yesterday, the Dutch distributor of Hudson e-Bikes and PTW’s has applied for suspension of payments. Main reason for Brittijn’s BV financial difficulties are insufficient deliveries of e-Bikes manufactured by E-Bike GmbH, owned by Hudson Bike GmbH.
Hudson Bike GmbH was founded October 2006 by the investment companies Prout AG (70% of the shares) and the Blue Cap AG (30%); both listed on the Frankfurt stock market. Hudson invested heavily in several key companies e.g. E-Bike GmbH in Germany and Brittijn BV in Holland. E-Bike GmbH is the former X-act GmbH, who used to manufacture bikes for Sachs FMT.
Excellent Dealer Network in the Benelux
Last spring Frank Schoeck, CEO of Prout AG said: “Brittijn is a very important company since it has a well organized marketing, sales and service organization with an excellent dealer network in the Benelux countries. Besides, Brittijn owns key patents of the Saxonette and exclusive brand rights for the Netherlands.”
The future of Hudson Bike and its subsidiaries looks dark as recently also co-investor Blue Cap pulled back its 30% shareholding in the company. Currently all shares are owned by Prout. The question is now how long Hudson Bike can continue after losing their biggest distributor which sells the same number of e-Bikes as the German maker does on its home market.
