ROSMALEN, The Netherlands – Yesterday, at the FietsVak trade fair in the Netherlands, Accell Group member Batavus (Rob Beset MD, left) has been awarded the ‘Innovation of the Year’ price for its anti-theft chip.
Bike maker Batavus developed this chip to be placed inside the frame-tubes and not, as was the case in Holland, in bike locks that can be removed from the bike.
4.5 Million Bikes in Database
Next to the anti bike theft chip, Batavus also developed a scanner with which the Dutch Police can easily enter the new online bike registration database. That database currently contains all the relevant identifying marks of over 4.5 million bicycles. With the Batavus developed scanner the Police is in seconds able to track down if the scanned bike is registered as stolen or not.
