Shimano 2007: Sales Back on Track
OSAKA, Japan – 2007 has been very profitable for Shimano. For the second year in succession the component manufacturer managed to grow its turnover and net income. Total net sales reached JPY 211,767 million (€ 1,228 million), an increase of 24.3% compared with the previous year.
Net overall income saw bumper growth with 44.4% to JPY 19,894 million (€ 115 million). For the current year Shimano expects a further growth in net sales with 6.2% and income with 20.6%.
Bikes Remain Core Business
Bicycle components are still by far Shimano’s core business. In 2007 this sector accounted for some 75% of the net sales and even 88% of the operating income. The rest is spread over fishing tackle, cold forged products and snow board equipment.
Shimano's major markets are Europe and Asia which in 2007 again showed further growth. Total overseas sales ratios went up from 84.9% in 2006 to 87.1% in 2007. The component maker realized 41.1% of its total sales in Europe (was 39% in 2006), while sales in Asia went up from 27.2% in 2006 to 30.1% last year. Shimano's sales on the US market decreased from 16.5% in 2006 to 13.9% in 2007.
