TAIPEI, Taiwan – Today the highest ranking government official of the Republic of China officially opened the brand new Nangang exhibition hall as well as the 21th Taipei Int’l Cycle Show. ROC President Chen Shui-bian was the star of the Opening Ceremony, but he was not the only government official.
The Opening Ceremony was hosted by Steve Ruey-Long Chen, Minister of Economic Affairs; Hsu Chih-Jen, TAITRA Chairmen and Yang Ying-Ming, Chairman of the TBEA.
The fact that the opening was done by the Taiwan President emphasizes the importance of the Nangang venue in which the Taiwan government invested 260 million euro. His presence also reflected the importance of the bike industry for Taiwan; value wise a 1.6 billion US$ business, calculating only the 4,750,000 exported bikes in 2007.
That the Taiwan President was there is maybe also linked to what was said by TBEA Chairman Yang Ying-Ming: “As bikes are environmental friendly, good for body and mind as well as CO2 emission free; we want to make Taiwan into a bicycle island with over 10,000 kilometers bike paths; a Bike Day and an Bike Museum.”
