Fibrax Cycle Section Targeted for Growth

WREXHAM, UK - Recently Fibrax won the contract to supply Brompton Bicycle Ltd with new improved brake for their range of folding bicycles. This business was won on the basis of superior braking performance of Fibrax pads, when compared to other leading brands, in Brompton testing.

Bicycles with the new improved brakes are on sale in shops now and aftermarket Fibrax produced inserts and pads will be available from the usual Brompton stockists.

In 2007 Fibrax acquired the Automotive Moulding sector of British Vita PLC. These sales had a value of GBP 2.5 million (€ 3.1mn) per annum. This acquisition involved the closure of their site in Manchester and the movement of equipment, tooling and services to Wrexham.

These sales added to existing sales of GBP 6.5 million (€ 8.1mn) and positions Fibrax as a very sustainable volume manufacturer from the UK. The company’s cycle section, Braking and Cable solutions, now equates to 16% of the turnover which is currently targeted as a growth sector with the onset of the strong automotive position. Fibrax also have a manufacturing site in Poland along with manufacturing associations in Turkey, Italy, Mexico, USA and China.

Fibrax Limited today operates with expertise of multi material and fabrication of components. Design is at the forefront of the expansion of the business. The company is a full service provider to the automotive sector designing from concept through to volume support on some of the highest volume cars in the world.

Volume vehicles such as Opel Corsa, Astra and Vectra, Renault Clio, Fiat Punto and Megane are in the company’s portfolio. Fibrax also design and manufacture for the other end of the spectrum including Land Rover, Mclaren, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Aston Martin.

The youthful management team, now lead by John O'Brien, believe there is a bright future for manufacturing in the UK assuming there is full commitment to investment of new manufacturing methods. Fibrax Limited has in the past always invested for future requirements, this investment will continue in 2008. The investment has resulted in employment for 150 individuals at the Fibrax Wrexham site.
