BRUSSEL, Belgium - Today the members of the Technical Committee TC333 for e-Bikes will meet at the Brussels office of the CEN, the European Committee for Standardization. “After this meeting we hope that the standard for pedelecs can go to the final voting by the CEN members”, says Siegfried Neuberger, chairman of the CEN TC 333.
The new standard EN 15194 for EPACs (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles) will be sixth CEN standard related to bicycles. This new standard comes later than expected. Last year October we reported the new standard for pedelecs would be accepted by the European Commission and come into effect by early 2008.
The Technical Committee TC333 is next to the Safety Standard for pedelecs also working on EN 15496 for cycle locks; on EN 15532 for cycle terminology while new projects are bicycle trailers and BMX bikes.
