CHICAGO, US – Just shortly after SRAM’s entrance on the road-race markets, the Americans managed to win the Giro d’Italia. Last Sunday the SRAM Red equipped Spaniard Alberto Contador (Team Astana) took the victory. He finished nearly two minutes ahead of the Italian Riccardo Ricco of Saunier Duval-Scott team who also rode SRAM Red.
This double victory is an important gain for SRAM as the market for road race components is very image orientated. With the toughest climbs in pro racing, this year’s Giro d’Italia was the perfect playground for SRAM Red compact. Thanks to their 50 X 34 crankset, both Alberto Contador and Ricardo Ricco had the spinning advantage to drop their major opponents.
