AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – It has been feared for several years; IKEA’s entrance on the bicycle market. Recently the retail giant announced the introduction of a kid’s bike and folding bike on the Dutch market.
Despite IKEA’s retail power, the readers of the Bike Europe website do not regard the Swedish company as a treat to the bicycle industry as indicated by the results of our last week’s poll.
The poll of the week stated: IKEA started selling bikes. Currently this is still limited to the Netherlands. But what if this retail giant is to sell bikes on a global scale? Do you regard that as:
40% of our website visitors is positive as it will create more awareness for bikes. Another 21% doesn’t’ care. Only 39% regard IKEA as a menace as it will affect business at the regular sales channels. These figures clearly indicate that the bicycle industry becomes less afraid of newcomers on the market and relies on its own strengths.
