Bicycles in Spotlight at EU Green Week
BRUSSELS, Belgium – The delegates of last weeks Green Week event in Brussels have taken notice of how two-wheelers can be part of the solution to environmental and other problems politicians face today. Together with European Cyclits Federation (ECF), ETRA presented a Velo-city bike to Nicholas Hanley (see photo), Communication & Governance manager of Stavros Dimas, Commissioner for the Environment DG.
ETRA strongly believes in the environmental potential of cycling. Therefore, the trade association organised a presentation of bikes, pedelecs, components and accessories. The event was precisely aimed at making European decision-makers aware of what the bicycle can do for their policies.
Fisherman versus Bikes
On 4 June, angry fishermen who were demonstrating against the petrol prices prevented the event from taking place. On 5 June ETRA laid out the test track for bicycles and for emission-free motorised two-wheelers on the esplanade of the Berlaymont building in the heart of Brussels’ European district.
Batavus, Dahon, Flyer, Gazelle, Giant, Koga, Schauff, Schwinn and Sparta presented pedelecs, folding bikes, cargo bikes, city bikes equipped with innovative components, etc. Furthermore, Stuttgart’s brand-new electric bike leasing scheme was also demonstrated at this Green Week event. There was a charger station and a battery vending machine on display in Brussels.
