Rumour of the Week

LILLE, France – Decathlon is expanding its production in Portugal heavily. This is said to be linked with delays in the start-up of the production of bicycles at the new Decathlon facility which was originally planned for 2009.

The sporting goods retail giant is already having some 500,000 bikes assembled in Portugal and is said to double this number! Production takes place at Decanor in Serzedo, Portugal. This bike maker is rapidly growing as it had a 2007 production  of about 200,000 units.

The company recently opened a new factory where production on 8 assembly lines by the end of 2008 will amount to about 500,000 units. For 2009 a total production of about 1 million units is planned.
