TAICHUNG, Taiwan – Since September Taiwan’s bike industry cluster A-Team has a new chairman; Merida General Manager Michael Tseng. Bike Europe spoke with him last week in Taiwan on new A-Team goals which are focused on taking the next step in further improving the production efficiency by the Taiwan industry.
Shorter just-in-time delivery schedule
At the basis of the further improved production efficiency stands shortened lead times by component makers. The new A-Team Chairman wants with that have the Taiwan bike makers to switch to an even shorter just-in-time delivery schedule.
Under the reign of Tony Lo (CEO of Giant Group) who stepped down after a term of six years as A-Team Chairman, the Taiwan bike industry already got itself so organized that a 10 day delivery schedule was adopted. This schedule is based on receiving deliveries from component suppliers on the first day and delivering complete bikes 10 days later.
A-Team Chairman Michael Tseng intends to have all its 22 members in Taiwan as well as the associated members, to adopt a new 7 day schedule by the end of this year. Michael Tseng also stated that the A-Team members are to duplicate the new 7 day just-in-time schedule in their Chinese facilities.
