TAICHUNG, Taiwan – Since Merida General Manager Michael Tseng (photo) took over the leadership of the Taiwan bike industry cluster A-Team last year, new goals and objectives are implemented. One of these goals is about launching A-Team branded bikes.

The A-Team is having its annual general meeting during Taipei Cycle 2009. This meeting is taking place Wednesday March 18 at 8:30 am at the Taipei Int’l. Convention Center. Here the 22 Taiwan members and the 5 sponsor members are discussing the goals for 2009.

These 2009 A-Team goals are strengthening the A-Team’s foundation; implementing new marketing strategies and the vision of developing Taiwan into a cycling island.

In particular A-Team’s marketing strategy is an interesting goal that under the leadership of Giant CEO Tony Lo, the former A-Team Chairman, got more or less neglected. That will not be the case under the reign of Michael Tseng. Together with the 22 Taiwan members the following objectives of the A-Team marketing strategy have been formulated:

Collaborative development of strategic parts which will be carried out by Giant and Merida. The concept involves collaborative developing A-Team branded bikes that use frames by Giant and Merida, with 60 to 70% of the components being produced by the A-team member companies, and launching them on the market.

Other marketing goals are measures to boost the recognition of the A-Team logo and collaborative marketing. This includes developing new brands and marketing routes.

Whether the A-Team branded bikes will be on show during Taipei Cycle 2009 remains at this moment the big question. However, that will not be the case for Taipei Cycle 2010. With the new marketing strategy the A-Team intends to present an answer to the financial crisis. And as 70% of Taiwan’s export in bikes is shipped to Europe, it is clear that where the focus is of the new marketing strategy of Taiwan’s bike industry cluster.
