Bike Industry Primed for Stardom

TAIPEI, Taiwan – The highest ranking government official opened the 2009 Taipei International Cycle Show last Wednesday. President Ma Ying-Jeou (photo), who is an avid cyclist, was leading the Opening Ceremony during which he said that: ‘The bike industry is primed for stardom.’

Taiwan President Ma was for the Opening Ceremony accompanied by lots of Presidents and CEO’s of renowned bike companies as well as officials from Show organizer TAITRA. The Opening act was turning on the lights behind the big Taipei International Cycle Show sign.

During his speech President Ma had some inspiring words for the international bike sector and for gthe Taiwanese bike industry in particular. He said: “The world is currently faced with shortages of energy and raw materials, and Taiwan, which imports all of its energy resources, faces even bigger challenges. Developing a low-consumption knowledge-based economy is the only way for Taiwan to succeed on the fiercely competitive international market.

“Meanwhile the government is working to consolidate industry, governmental and academic resources and to find new ways to encourage companies to focus on developing innovative green technologies. From an energy, environmental and fitness point of view, the bicycle industry is primed for stardom. The bicycle industry is entering a phase of unprecedented promise and potential.”
