TAIPEI, Taiwan – The ZEG has nothing to do with it. Europe’s biggest dealer cooperative is nor co-organizer or ‘conceptual’ partner of the new Munich Bike Expo which is to take place from 23 – 26 July, 2009.

At a press conference during last week’s Taipei Cycle Messe Munich’s Chairman and CEO Manfred Wutzlhofer (photo) explained why this new show is created and its plans.

The fact that the Bavarian exhibition company is taking Bike Expo very serious is illustrated by the fact that Chairman and CEO Manfred Wutzlhofer travelled all the way to Taipei to address the bike press. He was accompanied by Project Manager Markus Hefter.

The fact that there’s a new German bike show on the 2009 calendar is because of: “Three new mega trends in biking. Together they call for creating a new show platform. That’s why Messe Munich is organizing Bike Expo,” said CEO Wutzlhofer. These mega trends are: e-Bikes, urban mobility and active holidays.

According to the Messe Munich the three mega trends plus the fact that the bike industry is not a small sector compared to others, spurred the Bavarian exhibition company to create the new bike show. Wutzlhofer said: “If you see the entire industry plus its development then one has to conclude that it is not a small sector, but big. Biking has not only to do with sports, but is also rooted in lifestyle as well as an alternative for mobility and cars while it is also in vacations.

“This is why we are so motivated to create this new bike show. The future is in bringing concepts into people’s life. For that we are combining a trade fair with a dynamic and active consumer show. Messe Munich’s 30,000 m² open-air exhibition ground as well as a race track will be used for numerous races and events during the consumer days.”

On questions about the ZEG involvement in Bike Expo Messe Munich’s CEO said: “The ZEG is an exhibitor that has decided to concentrate on our new show and will participate from the very beginning. As it stands now we have booked a total floor space of 5,000 m². We are planning to hold Bike Expo in four halls. The price for a booth stands at 120 euro per m².”

Finally CEO Wutzlhofer said on the July timing: “As we need innovative concepts Bike Expo is earlier than every other show. The bike industry urged us to have the show that early as it will enable us to attract lots of consumers in their summer holidays.”
