Gazelle Starts Planning New Facility in the Netherlands

RHEDEN, The Netherlands – Gazelle and the city council of Rheden have started researching the possibilities for a new location of the bike manufacturer. They recently signed a letter of intent in which

all the details for such a new location within the boundaries of the Rheden district are stipulated. Currently Gazelle is located in Dieren which is part of the Rheden district. 

The Gazelle board of directors wants to move to a new location as its current facility in which painting, assembly and offices are scattered over numerous buildings, is no longer suitable for operating a modern production company.

In a press release Gazelle says that a new building on a new location will result in better internal logistics and an improved lay-out of all the production units. Next to savings in logistics and improved efficiency, the new location will also contribute significantly in lower energy and maintenance costs.

Next June the first inquiries to whether the Rheden city council is able to be the contractor and renter of the new Gazelle facility should be finalized. That will also share light on the possibilities of constructing new houses on the current Gazelle premises.

For the Rheden city council a matter of major concern is to keep the employment by Gazelle within its boundaries. Currently about 500 people are employed by the leading bicycle maker in the Netherlands. It is estimated that it will take at least three to four year before the plans can turned into the reality of a new Gazelle facility.
