At last week’s Shanghai Show rim maker Rigida/Weinmann announced that it started constructions for a new factory in China. It is located in a new commercial zone that includes a new harbour in Huizhoy which is about 100 kilometers from Shenzhen.
Numerous bicycle manufacturers are located in the same region. According to Rigida Group CEO Jan-Willem Ten Dam the company acquired a 32,000 m² plot for the new factory of Rigida Group subsidiary Weinmann. Over 4,500 m² of that plot will be used for the factory, and 800 m² for offices, dormitory and other staff facilities. Capacity of the new factory is over 4 million rims a year.
“One of the main reasons to invest in this new factory is that our current facility is too small. Our customers urged us to make this step because of a lack of production capacity in our current facility. Next to a higher output the new factory will bring a big improvement in logistics. Also we want to start our new wheelbuilding activities there,” explained Ten Dam.
Rigida/Weinmann plans a wheelbuilding production of 400,000 wheelsets annually. The new factory will have a workforce of about 60 people including temps.
