Fire Destroys Dutch Bike Stock
NIEUWLEUSEN, the Netherlands – A major fire destroyed the former Union bicycle factory last Friday evening. The building housed several companies among them Westerman Logistics that distributes bikes for several brands in the Netherlands.
The former bike factory was used to stock a part of the bicycle inventory of wholesaler Kruitbosch Cycle Universe. The Westerman warehouse burned down completely. As a result the Kruitbosch Cycle Universe private label bikes named Cortina are out of stock for the time being.
All Kruitbosch customers have been informed about the temporary unavailability of the Cortina bicycles. All other products of Kruitbosch Cycle Universe are handled via their own warehouse and are available as usual.
The fire had a big impact on the small town Nieuwleusen. Everybody in an area of three kilometres was asked to stay inside due to the danger of asbestos. The building was owned by local business Marcel Smit and housed a painting facility, a stove building and the mentioned bike warehouse. Nobody was hurt due to the fire, although several people had to be treated in hospital for breathing problems. So far the cause of the fire is unknown.
