LYNDON STATION, USA – During the first seven months of 2009, bike imports into the United States dropped 15% compared to the same period of 2008. However, not all was bad as the number of imported 27-inch & 700c wheel imported continued to grow.
During the first seven months of 2009 a total of 8.7 million bicycles were imported into the US; down 1.5 million or 15.1% on the 2008 total in the same period.
The drop in value (FOB dollars) was only 6% while the average FOB unit value increased by 10%, from US$ 67.94 in the first seven months of 2008 compared to US$ 74.72 for the same period this year.
During the named period compared to 2008 20-inch wheel & larger imported bicycles decreased by 17% in units. 27-inch & 700c wheel imported bicycles continued to show the only increase, up by 15% in units and 23% in value.
