UTRECHT, the Netherlands – The Bike Motion Benelux 2009 Show (Oct. 30 – Nov. 2) reflected that despite the economic downturn the interest in high-end sports bikes remains high. This event was massively visited by road racers and mountainbikers as well as by dealers on the special trade day, November 2. Bike Motion Benelux has never had so many visitors before. The same goes for exhibitors making it the second biggest bike show in Europe after Eurobike.

In total 29,942 people visited this show, an increase of up to 20% from the previous record year 2008 (24,762 visitors). Most show organizers can only dream of such growth figures, especially in today’s difficult economic situation. It was a full house at the exhibition centre Jaarbeurs Utrecht this year.

200 Exhibitors

Earlier this summer organizer VNU Exhibitions had to step up their initial planned three to four halls to house all exhibitors. The gross floor size of the show increased by 6,000 to 32,500 square meters. The number of exhibitors grew this year from 160 to almost 200 and the number of brands from 400 to 600. The growing importance of this show was clearly indicated by the strong presence of manufacturers, importers and dealers from Belgium, France, Germany and Italy in particular.

Not surprisingly most visitors of the Bike Motion Benelux have multiple sports bikes. The racing one is the most popular (82%), followed by the mountainbike (62%). The touring bike can look forward to growing interest from 13% to 26% this year.

For most visitors their main reasons to attend this event were to see new products and developments as well as general orientation before buying a new bike. About half of all visitors have planned to purchase a new bike within six months while 45% of this group wants to spend between € 2,000 and € 4,000 on their new bike.

The Bike Motion Benelux did not only attract a large crowd this year, but also famous names in roadracing, such as Denis Menchov, Oscar Freire, Servais Knaven, Kenny van Hummel, Bobbie Traksel, Martijn Maaskant and Laurens ten Dam. Next year’s dates for Bike Motion Benelux 2010 are 22 to 25 October.
