AURICH, Germany – What Accell Group already reported on its sales in Germany during the first half of 2009, is now confirmed by the German dealer association VSF; high-end bike sales on Europe’s biggest market thrived with double-digit growth figures.
According to a recent survey among the 270 VSF dealer/members; 77% of them reported an increase in sales; half of them even claimed growth of 11% in the first 3 quarters of 2009. This is in line with the 14% increase in turnover Accell Group reported for the first six months of the year. And as Germany had, like the biggest part of Europe, a great summer this year the 11% growth figure indicates a continued growth during the third quarter of 2009.
On why German bike dealers were able to beat the financial crisis, VSF states the same reasons as Accell Group did at its presentation on the first half year financial results. Here it was said that: “In Germany, there is great interest in the bicycle as a potential solution to mobility and environmental issues.” VSF Chairman Albert Herresthal added that Germans are aware of the fact that bicycles offer an economical means of transport.
