DHAKA, Bangladesh - Meghna Group, the major bicycle and parts maker from Bangladesh, has taken the next step to enter the European markets by opening an EU sales office. UK based MTI in Nottingham has been appointed as their exclusive sales agent for Europe.

Neal Holdsworth (photo) of MTI has 17 years experience in sourcing and developing bikes for major customers and brands in Europe and, most recently, worked as Product & Sourcing Director for Raleigh UK Ltd.

“We have ambitious plans to significantly grow our sales of complete bicycles and parts into Europe”, said Mr Rahman (photo), CEO of Meghna Group. “MTI’s knowledge and experience will definitely enhance our ability to achieve these goals.”

Earlier this year, Bike Europe reported on Meghna's two main goals: expanding to an annual bike export of half a million units in the next five years and developing from an exporter of entry to mid-end bikes to mid and high-end bikes. Helping the effort is the duty-free status Bangladesh enjoys with regard to bikes and parts exports to the EU.

“This is a great opportunity for us”, said Neal Holdsworth. “Meghna has invested significantly in his factories over the last few years to offer export products. The three bicycle assembly factories are very well equipped, offer a flexible approach to manufacture and are very well supported by other Meghna Group’s part making companies. Next to that Meghna’s unique position of 0% import duty into the EU makes their commercial ratio of quality and price extremely good. Meghna Group makes a full range of products with a particular focus on MTB, City/Trekking and BMX.”
