TAICHUNG, Taiwan – Bike shoe and pedal maker Exustar has relocated its production facility. “We outgrew our original premises three or four years ago,” says MD Calvin Hsieh (photo left, together with Mitch Liu, Bicycle Marketing Director).

“It is great now to have everybody and everything under one roof in such a spacious building in Taichung. Previously we cobbled together whatever space became available in the neighbourhood: a workshop across the road, our warehouse next door, that kind of thing.” The new facility is more than double the size of the previous premises and the new location is close to a freeway ramp for convenient transportation.

Since the relaunch after a management buyout in 2002 Exustar has grown rapidly from a workforce of six then, to fifty today. The company offers a wide range of cycling products and in 2006 entered the motorcycle business with a range of boots and apparel.

Exustar began in 1993 as Exus, as a special project at pedal maker VP Components. Initially Exus concentrated on high-end pedals, but Exus engineers were convinced competitive cyclists would be better served by a fully-integrated clipless pedalling system. So in 1995, Exus began producing cycling shoes as well as clipless pedals. In 2002 it was decided that Exus would best fulfil its potential independently of VP, and a buyout by Exus management was arranged. Today Exustar has international offices in China and the Netherlands.
