BOXMEER, the Netherlands - The targeted production volumes are impressive; 4.5 million rims coming season which will be rapidly expanded in 2011. Wheelbuilding production with Holland Mechanics machinery for OE customers stands at 400,000 wheelsets annually. Rim maker Rigida/Weinmann started production earlier this month in its new factory in Huizhou, China which is about 100 kilometers from Shenzhen where numerous bicycle makers are located.
According to Rigida Group CEO Jan Willem Ten Dam the new factory is the company’s main Asian facility for the next decade aimed at volume production as well as special products with lower series. The move of all the machinery from the company’s former plant is almost completed. Production has started and is running smoothly.
Rigida Group has build the new factory for its subsidiary Weinmann on a 32,000 m² plot of which over 14,500 m² will be used for production, offices, dormitory and other staff facilities.
Standard products will be produced separate from the special ones.
Ten Dam further said: “The new factory will bring an end to our production capacity problems as our former facility was too small. We are now able to handle all orders correctly. Next to that the Huizhou plant provides big improvements in logistics as we are much closer located to our customers and because there’s also a harbour in the new commercial zone of Huizhou.”
