ZEG: Record Results in '09, Continues International Expansion

COLOGNE, Germany – The world’s biggest dealer cooperative in the bike business, the German ‘Zweirad Experten Gruppe’ better know as ZEG eG, saw its overall turnover increase by 10.8% tot € 393 million in 2009. CEO Georg Honkomp (photo) comments: “2009 was another very successful year which was the result of the expansion of our member companies.”

“In particular the growing demand for e-Bikes is a great success and is thanked to growing environmentally conscious thinking,” continues Honkomp.

Overall, the ZEG unifies up to 900 independent bicycle dealers. The dealer cooperative  took over the French Veloland retail organization early 2009. The number of Veloland member companies in France is growing rapidly; increasing the 2009 turnover from these member by about 150% compared to 2008. The number of Veloland members increased from 13 to 70.

In a press statement ZEG further states: “The expansion plans in Europe could be pushed further in 2009 with great success. In Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland new members enlisted to the ZEG, as well as in Holland and Belgium. The cooperation with neighbouring countries, Austria and Switzerland is successful and here also increases in the sale of bicycles, bicycle parts and accessories are recorded in 2009.”

ZEG CEO Georg Honkomp is confident about 2010: “Health, environment protection and mobility will remain important trends and inspire consumers to buy our outstanding products. For this reason, we expect 2010 to be a good year.”
