AMERSFOORT, the Netherlands – SRAM is the world’s first mainstream bike component maker officially confirming it is working on parts for e-Bikes. In an interview with CEO Stan Day, he says such parts are ‘getting closer to the finish line’.

At this year’s Taipei Cycle SRAM will not openly display its new e-Bike parts however. They will continue to have meetings with development customers, show static parts and discuss the evolution of the system concept.

Day says, “Despite the fact that we do not produce electric bike drive trains yet, we feel that we as a bike component maker are uniquely equipped for this sector. We understand cyclists and support dealers. We did not want to go to China and just buy parts. We have been studying to understand the technology; to look where we can fit in by integrating components.” An example of such component integration for e-Bikes is already marketed by BionX, with a e-Bike hub motor with integrated SRAM i-Motion 3-speed hub gear.

The Stan Day interview will be published in Bike Europe’s March edition; publication date March 30.
