TACHIA, Taiwan – Giant CEO Tony Lo (photo) recently announced to invest in the company’s 6th facility in China. The new factory is, next to a complete range of bikes, also to produce carbon frames.
Giant’s 6th Chinese plant will be located in Kunshan, where already other Giant facilities are located. “In a first stage we will invest US$ 36 million (€ 26.4 mn) in a bicycle production facility including carbon frames,” said Lo.
Giant will start building the new plant end of June. Bike and carbon frame production is planned to start in 2011. The new Kunshan facility will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million bicycles.
By the way: in China and on its home market Taiwan Giant recently launched an e-Scooter. According to Lo the Giant e-Scooter will on a longer term also become available in other markets, including Europe.
