OSAKA, Japan - Today Shimano announces the launch of a new 10-speed drivetrain technology for mountain bikes called Dyna-Sys. Next to the extra gear, Dyna-Sys features a completely redesigned drivetrain with many additional benefits. The first Dyna-Sys products for the Deore XT, SLX groups and non-series will be available this spring.

The main new features of Dyna-Sys are closer gear ratios for a smoother shifting performance and improve power transfer creating optimized gear combinations for more efficiency and durability. According to Shimano, Dyna-Sys offers a more stable drivetrain.

Shimano introduces a wide range of 3 x 10 mountain bike components with the Dyna-Sys drivetrain. The new products launched this spring for the Deore XT and SLX groups, as well as Dyna-Sys non-series are an addition to the 9-speed components. They can be recognized by the Dyna-Sys logo. Visually, the components are identical to the 9-speed versions but they include the new component technology.

Completely new drivetrain

Shimano has changed the standard set-up of the drivetrain to increase the efficiency and achieve more stability. The current standard set up is 44-32-22 teeth chain rings combined with 9-speed cassette sprockets. This will change to 42-32-24 teeth chain rings combined with 10-speed cassette sprockets.

A closer ratio front drivetrain with wider range cassette sprockets has several advantages like an increased efficiency and easier shifting between the middle and the small chain ring as well as the middle and the big chain wheel. It also creates more and closer gear ratios meaning smaller jumps in between gears, more efficient chain movement and less chance of dropping a chain in rough conditions. Alongside Dyna-Sys has a tighter cable routing and shorter rear derailleur housing making it less prone to contamination, trail chatter or suspension movement.

Dyna-Sys comes in the following mountain bike components. For Deore XT and SLX group sets it includes a Hollowtech II crankset with 42-32-24T, two rear derailleurs, four front derailleurs, shifters, cassette sprockets with 11-36T or 11-34T and a dedicated chain. For the non-series Shimano comes with a Dyna-Sys 2-piece crankset with 42-32-24 teeth.
