PARIS, France – Ignoring the vital importance for the bike sectors in and outside Europe, Chairman Brian Montgomery (photo) of the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association denies comments on the current anti-dumping procedure for bicycles exported from China and Vietnam.

That procedure stipulates that, after the notice of the impending expiry of anti-dumping measures was published in the Official Journal of the European Union which took place on March 19, 2010, Union producers may lodge a written request for a review. “Union producers may submit a written request for a review on the above basis at any time from the date of the publication of the present notice but no later than three months before the expiry date.”

This means that the EBMA had to submit the review request before April 15. Once that review request is received, the Commission publishes a ‘Notice of Initiation’ and begins investigating whether dumping and injury are likely to continue or recur. That ‘Notice of Initiation’ hasn’t been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. As the three months deadline has passed, Bike Europe asked the EBMA Chairman why that publication didn’t took place yet. He answered:

“The next Notice that will be published is the one in July. I have no further comments on the situation.”
