Shimano Sponsors Global Ironman Events

OSAKA, Japan - Continuing its long-standing involvement in bicycle racing and supporting athletes striving to reach the top echelons of sport, Shimano announced its re-investment in the sport of triathlon with its official global sponsorship of Ironman and 70.3 events in 2010.

WTC, owners and organizers of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series, is recognized for athletic excellence, performance and quality products. The Ironman brand is synonymous with demonstrating the essence and pinnacle of the sport of triathlon.

Ironman events are the platform for aspiring athletes to prove themselves in the sport of triathlon. In 2009, over 125,000 people participated in global Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events. In 2010, Shimano will be an official sponsor in more than 30 of those events.

For decades, elite triathletes have relied on Shimano technologies, wheels and components to achieve greatness in triathlon, from qualifying events around the globe to the lava fields of Kona. Shimano sponsors over 30 top competitive triathletes on its global team, including Craig Alexander - reigning Ironman World Champion.

Shimano and its PRO brand products play a leading role in the competitive field in triathlon competitions worldwide. The technologies and functional designs of Shimano products help address the specific needs of triathletes, ranging from aerodynamic designs of aero-bars and wheels to highly efficient, precision electronic shifting and comfortable performance footwear.
