STOCKHOLM, Sweden – 2010 is a year with considerable changes for Cycleurope. CEO Tony Grimaldi (photo) recently announced the closing of its Kildemoes factory in Denmark while similar rumours are spreading regarding Bianchi ceasing production in Italy. In an interview with Bike Europe he reveals:
“For us, the strategy is being flexible and having fewer production units.”
Grimaldi is interviewed in Bike Europe’s May edition; publication date May 28. On questions on his outlook for the near future he said: “Even in difficult times, like nowadays in the economic crisis, it’s possible to be successful. I am convinced that the bicycle remains to be a product for the future.”
On the rumours about Bianchi in Italy ceasing production Grimaldi said: “Last January we decided to keep the production of high-end products in Bianchi. The production of the medium level ones will go to France and some will be outsourced to Asia. So the production will not cease completely in Italy.”
Grimaldi further noted: “Bianchi is a global brand and we have a strong platform in Asia with several suppliers. So we’re expecting this will work out rather easily. For that matter, the decision to cease the production in Denmark was not urged by the economic crisis. It was a strategic decision.”
