CLOPPENBURG, Germany – Some weeks ahead of Eurobike, the largest bike manufacturer in Germany manages to attract thousands of trade visitors not only from its home market, but also from the Benelux, Austria, Spain, France, the US and even Canada for the presentation of its 2011 range.

Derby Cycle CEO Mathias Seidler is pleased with the growing popularity. “Although this is a fair for our regular customers, we are hosting the third largest bicycle trade show in Germany,” says Seidler.

According to Derby Cycle its annual open house show continues to grow. Although originally planned to last for three days, the German bike maker has decided to prolong the show for two more days due to the large number of attending dealers.

For the 2011 model presentation a large part of the warehouse in Cloppenburg has been converted into an exhibition area. About 500 new bikes of the brands Kalkhoff, Focus, Rixe, Raleigh and Univega are presented here.

Also for Derby Cycle, the bestsellers for 2010 were: e-Bikes. Hence, the biggest product news was not one of the many highly sought-after bikes, but a Lithium-Ion 18 Ah battery, which is developed by Derby Cycle in cooperation with a German battery manufacturer.

“This cooperation enables us to develop powerful batteries exclusively for our Kalkhoff and Raleigh e-Bikes,” explains Rainer Brinkmann, the company’s e-Bike product manager. “The new Lithium-Ion 18 Ah battery offers an 80% range increase to up to 140 km. In addition, this new battery generation allows up to 1100 charging cycles.”

“We are confident that this will boost Derby’s e-Bike sales and with that expand Kalkhoff’s leading position in the German e-Bike market,” says marketing manager Herwig Reus.
