THE HAGUE, Netherlands (24 October) - The Dutch Ministry of Defense offers all its 75.000 employees (uniformed and civilian staff) a (due to fiscal measures) free bicycle. The employees of army, navy and airforce can select a bicycle of their choice to a maximum consumer price of NLG1,500 (US$572;EUR680). In Holland, there is a fiscal measure to enhance bicycle use for commuting which makes this project financially attractive for both the Ministry and the employees. Their choice shouldn’t necessarily be a commuter, but can be any bike within the budget: those already having a commuter may buy a leisure bike as well. (OB)
