Food Chain Discounter Aldi Offers Mountainbikes

MUNICH, Germany (28 November) - For the first time German and international food market chain discounter Aldi is now offering a complete mountainbike on its home market. Aldi has for some time been campaigning with bicycle accessories, and the Dutch Aldi chain has even sold complete bicycles as a stunt article. While the fully-equipped 24-inch wheel youth mountainbike-style bicycle hasn't yet been shown on Aldi's website it's already introduced on Aldi's printed bargain sales ads. From 27 November on the Aldi outlets will sell "a limited number" of these Mercury-label bicycles for a killer sales price of DEM 398 (US$173;EUR203). This price includes a ten year warranty on the aluminum frame as well as a two year warranty on all other parts. Aldi's full-equipped Mercury mountainbike is fitted with some classified parts, like a RST "154" front suspension fork, Shimano Acera drivetrain and a Selle Royal saddle. According to the ad in several newspapers the bike will be given out with manuals as repair instructions etc. Aldi offers also a service hotline. The ad keeps it open if this service hotline is for the bike only or for the entire food and textile bargain range aside too.(JB)
