NEW YORK, NY/USA- In the first nine months of fiscal year 1999/2000 US retail giant Wal-Mart recorded double-digit increases in both sales and profit. According to a news of the German press agency dpa, sales increased 17% to a total of US$ 113.6 billion. At the same time period profit rose 27% to a total of US$ 3.7 billion.
Wal-Mart has some 3,925 outlets and employs 1.035 million people worldwide. These numbers include 984 outlets and 220,000 employees outside of the giant's home market USA. The European market is expected to play an increasingly greater role in Wal-Mart's overall strategy. (JB)
