BUTTISHOLZ, Switzerland (3 September) - Villiger have appointed Harald Schmiedel (33, ex-Cannondale) as GM for their Swiss manufacturing plant after Edi Fleischmann left after only eight months, joining a family company. Before Fleischmann, Christian Wellauer, Dieter Jermann and Dani Bruhin have each been in charge of Villiger for at least 12 months. But all three went to the more prosperous car industry. Two interim popes of very short duration were Damian Wirth and Gerrit Gaastra, both leaving within months. Owner Heinrich Villiger and Villiger-Diamant GM Hugo Blech hope that Schmiedel will bring some continuity in the Swiss S-Klasse bicycle manufacturer. The new manager is a born German, but at least ‘he can communicate in the Swiss dialect’. (PH)
