NUNSPEET, Netherlands (November 5) – For the second year in a row Shimano Europe is diverting the NLG 25,000 (EUR11,344) it would have spent on corporate Christmas cards to its Shimano Cycling Concept Award. This contest for the best cycle advocacy scheme in Europe was started this year while the winner was the Scottish Cycling Development Project. In its second year, the Shimano Cycling Concept Award focuses again on non-commercial activities that, according to Shimano’s Europe marketing manager Frank Peiffer, “Promote the daily use of bicycles and make them more popular. The idea is not to support cycling clubs and pure sport activities or to sponsor some technical developments or patents. We’re looking for specific projects. The Award is not meant to support organizations without any concrete plan.” All cycling related associations and federations, schools, clubs and anybody who has a good idea is welcome to submit his plan for the development of cycling. Entries need to be submitted in English by 10th January 2002. Plans should be submitted including a summary of maximum half an A4 page that explains the basic concept and its targets. A Jury of 4 persons will survey all the plans and schemes and decide about which one is the most practicable and promising. The judges of the Second Shimano Cycling Concept Award are: Jack Oortwijn / Bike Europe (NL), www.bike-eu.com, Carlton Reid / Bicycle Business (UK), www.bikebiz.co.uk, and Michael Bollschweiler / Radmarkt (D), www.radmarkt.de. The winner will be announced on 13th February 2002. Entries should be sent to: Shimano Cycling Concept Award Shimano Europe Industrieweg 24 8071 CT Nunspeet The Netherlands www.shimano.com
