EU Forgot Bicycles
BRUSSELS, Belgium (November 19) - Upon revision of its DG TREN website, the European Commission left out its bicycle statistics. The same applied to the EU Transport in its annual pocketbook. Colibi, Coliped, ETRA and ECF sent a joint letter to Transport & Energy commissioner Loyola de Palacio. Their outline was that cycling takes a substantial part in daily personal transportation both in trips and in overall distance, and should it keep that position (preferably improve it), it is imperative to make the existence of bicycle commuting visual for all. That means, among others, to include the figures in relevant sites and publications. ECF got a formal answer that statistics on bicycles will again be included in the next edition of the EU Pocketbook and on the web. (OB)
