NÜRNBERG, Germany (28 January) - In the negotiations between SRAM, the works council and the metal union, the transfer of a part of the SRAM hub manufacture to the cheaper Czech republic seems to be out of focus, as allegedly Kai-Uwe Rüde, SRAM Germany MD has said. The three parties involved are rather talking about how to achieve sufficient reduction of staff to make the Nürnberg SRAM plant sustainable on its own merit. SRAM claims that layoffs will be inevitable, but substantially less than originally announced (160). The exact measures as proposed will be announced at a joint staff meeting for all employees on 3 February. The restructure shall be completed by end of 2005.(OB)
