BionX caught the attention with the well-proven BionX PL250HT motor with integrated 3-gear hub. It was presented in the Syriette, a gasoline motorized bicycle by Steyr-Daimler Puch of 1938. Back then it inspired the development of the moped.

The Syriette of the 21st century stands for a new step of propulsion technology again – this time the manufacturer is Magna Marque. BionX owner demonstrated their new IGH3 technology on the eye-catching Syriette where it consists of the BionX 250 W motor with integrated 3-gear hub, freewheel and disc brakes.

The maintenance-free IGH3 system represents the first propulsion technology in the context of Matra’s new PedeleCity concept. PedeleCity focuses on solutions especially designed for city mobility using the BionX drive systems.

As Pascal Larose, head of technical development, explained, “Matra intends to develop a technology that is reduced to what is really needed in an ideal electric propulsion system for urban mobility. It does not matter if the bike is used for daily commute, or within a rental system, or in continuous business application at a postal company or by the police.” The new IGH3 technology will first be available in Trek bikes in 2010.

In addition, BionX presented two propulsion systems with new battery configurations: the PL250Light system only weighs 5.5 kg and fits all frame designs; the 22.2V lithium battery weighs as little as 1.4 kg and is supposed to provide up to 30 km of range.

The new PL250HT system comes with a powerful 37V 9.6Ah and 355 Wh lithium battery in the rear rack. It will be the first rear-rack solution which will also be available as an add-on kit. Matra announced that the new systems will be available in fall 2009 and that the company plans to produce up to 100,000 BionX systems next year.
