BREDA, the Netherlands – Retail organization Biretco looks back on a successful 2009. “In particular in Germany and Belgium we have booked significant growth”, said Ad Roest, Biretco’s export manager. “Also for 2010 we forecast an increase in turnover, number of affiliated IBDs as well as brand awareness.”
“In Germany, we booked a 15% increase in turnover, mainly due to new member/dealers, but also thanks to an increased business through Biretco from existing member/dealers. The German IBDs have responded positively on the new instore concept ‘The Bicycle Specialists’ which we launched end of 2008. Some 33 German stores have been converted to this concept at the expense of Biretco and we expect to invest in some 12 shops this year.”
“Like in several other European countries, also the German IBDs have proven to be able to withstand the economic difficult situation. They benefit from the political and social conditions as Germans are willing to ride their bike more often as they are sensitive for issues like environmental problems, air pollution and health.”
“In Belgium our turn-over grew by 25% which was achieved by 65 affiliated IBDs. By the end of 2010 we expect to have some 75 shops and that number will have reached 150 within three years.”
