With the rising popularity of e-bikes, the question arises which lighting system should be used to equip the new motor-aided bicycles, in order to provide the cyclist with the best possible vision.
The problem: While a dynamo supplies 6 V AC, an e-bike battery supplies between 6 and 42 V DC – a voltage that regular dynamo headlights are not fit to handle. A special headlight is necessary that can be connected to such a battery.
The solution: Busch & Müller presents the Lumotec IQ Fly E, a version of the popular LED IQ headlight, specially designed for e-bikes. Just like its dynamo counterpart, the Lumotec IQ Fly E provides the regular 40 Lux of brilliant lighting. T
he circuitry of the headlight can take anything between 6 and 42 V DC and is therefore suitable to be connected to e-bike batteries. The headlight is fitted with an on/off switch as well as a connection for regular dynamo-powered rear lights (6 V). As the headlight is in accordance with EU guideline 2009/67EG and conforms with the requirements of ISO 6742/1, it may be used on speed-e-bikes.
The Lumotec Fly E is only suited for batteries of speed-e-bikes. When it comes to 250W / 25 km/h pedelecs, a dynamo is mandatory in Germany, so that a regular dynamo headlight has to be used.
