GENEVE, Switzerland – The world’s second largest retailer Carrefour Group is about to leave the Swiss market. The French hyper market giant and bicycle seller divest its 50 percent share into its Swiss joint-venture Distributis AG to Coop.
Carrefour’s current joint venture partner Maus Fréres stays on board. Sales price for the 12 Swiss outlets is EUR 287 million. According to Carrefour the 12 hypermarkets recorded in 2006 a consolidated turn-over of EUR 504 million including tax.
With this value Distributis AG is said to keep a 1.1 percent market share on the Swiss market. Completion of this transaction is subject to the approval of the Swiss Antitrust authorities.
